Paulina Lagudi has made a very sweet, extremely entertaining movie in “Mail Order Monster”. Combining the best of Amblin and Pixar with that of an enriching tale of accepting change, the film tells of an unexpected friendship between a young girl – who is struggling to accept her stepmom – and a robot.
There’s some fantastical elements to the Film Mode Entertainment release but Lagudi’s libretto largely relies on realism and emotion to paddle her boat -and it works magnificently. The film is dedicated to the filmmaker’s best friend, her stepmother.
“Mail Order Monster” gets a VOD release on November 6.
